Sway by Magenta

DISCLAIMER: I don’t own any Buffy character...Joss Whedon does. I’m borrowing without any intention of making a profit or Turning a Prophet, so no legally things. I don’t own the song either, so there. =P I dunno who wrote the song (my liner notes are in a box somewhere), but it’s kinda old. The version I have, and I’m putting in this fiction, is sung by Anita Kelsey and is on the soundtrack to the movie Dark City starring Jennifer Connelly and Rufus Sewell.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: This is a plain ol’ song fict as I’m writing a pretty bloody involved Buffy fan fiction...so the other one would technically be my first BuffyFict, but this one came up while I was writing and the rest is history, as they say.
This is a simple song fict. Nothing particularly gruesome other than those things called Love and Guilt. It’s not particularly angsty, tho.
ARCHIVING: You want it, e-mail me. I’d like to know where my stuff is, doncha know.
RATING / SPOILERS: It’s something like PG/PG-14 for f/f situations. *quakes in her comfy Oscar the Grouch slippers in fear of, uhoh, LOVE* No spoilers unless you don’t know that Willow and Tara are together (were...?)...and if you don’t, didn’t, well, then my disclaimers have spoiled your surprise... If a Sapphic relationship is against your moral fibre, or illegal where you live, I suggest you move on and/or move out.

Willow’s eyes went wide when she heard the guitar and piano come over the P.A. She turned to Tara and gave her that heart-melting smile, then took her hand and guided her to the dance floor. Buffy was completely unaware of what the song was, and thought it an odd choice for the Bronze.

*Probably a request,* she thought to herself.

When the rumba rhythms start to play
Dance with me
Make me sway
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Hold me close
Sway me more

*A request I find myself liking,* she amended after the sultry female voice sang the first verse. Her eyes scanned the crowd like clock-work looking for signs of trouble when her gaze alighted on her best friend and her best friend’s girlfriend. She’d looked at Willow before. She’d danced with Willow before. She’d seen her smile before, but not like this.

*Whoa...when did THAT happen?*

Like a flower bending in the breeze
Bend with me
Sway with ease
Will we let you have your way with me
Stay with me
Sway with me

Buffy looked on as Willow transformed right before her eyes from her awkward babbling Best Friend to a sexual babbling Woman, happy in the arms of the blonde witch. Tara’s blue eyes were half-closed and her cute half-smile oozed sensuality. Willow’s eyes were open and watching her girlfriend, devouring her without saying a word. Her smile, playful and full of promise, sent chills up and down even Buffy’s spine.

Other dances leave me on the floor
But my eyes will see only you
Only you have that magic technique
Where we sway at the wind...

A pang of guilt shot through the Slayer’s awareness when she realized that she hadn’t been there for Willow nearly enough as the Wiccan was for her, through Angel and Riley and, well...everything. Because of her inattention, she missed out on one of the things she wanted to see most: the moment when Willow herself made the Transformation. And she lost that opportunity. She could only wonder if the "new" Willow was Tara’s doing or if it came about before her...Buffy had no idea. She’d paid attention to her best friend before, but supposed she just never noticed.

I can hear the sound of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth
Sway me now.

Willow wrapped her arms around Tara’s and drew her closer, if that was possible, and began to nuzzle her neck. The blonde’s eyes closed in reaction to whatever the red head’s mouth was doing...and the look of ecstasy on Tara’s face made Buffy blush and want to turn away, but she couldn’t.

Other dances leave me on the floor
But my eyes will see only you
Only you have that magic technique
Where we sway and I grow weak

That sexy half-smile returned to Tara’s face, making the Slayer wish for the briefest of instants that she was Willow, before the red head herself pulled back from her neck to gaze deeply into blue pools. The emotion in Willow’s eyes gave Buffy more than a moment’s pause about her sexuality. Then she realized that not only did she miss Willow’s transformation, she also missed the rest of Tara’s. She closed her eyes and cursed herself for not paying more attention to that which was truly important: her friends.

I can hear the sound of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth
Sway me now.

Small hands slowly traveled forward to cup the blonde’s face. Buffy could see that she leaned in to Willow’s touch, that beautifully haunting half-smile, seeming to be Tara’s trademark, deepened, accentuating her full lips.

*I should not be thinking like this about either of them...*

But she couldn’t deny what her body was feeling. She didn’t like watching them or anything, but she found herself lusting after the pure love they had and being confused about everything...while berating herself for not being there more for Willow.

C’mon babe.

Tara bent her head down, placing several butterfly kisses along the lines of her throat, making Willow lean her head back. Green eyes fluttered closed and Buffy’s cheeks started to burn.

Sway me now.
Sway me smooth.
Sway me now.
Yeah. Ooh
Gotta sway me now
C’mon baby

The Slayer, saviour of the world and killer of evil bad nasties, found herself unable, unwilling?, to look away when she knew what would come next, the power of Willow and Tara‘s connection too strong for her. The witches’ hips were moving in tandem, slow figure eights in time with the music and their hearts. Willow’s gentle and graceful fingers caressed cheeks and chins then slowly returned to the back of the blonde’s neck.

C’mon babe
Take me
Sway me.

Her mouth was bone dry and she felt odd watching her friends, but still couldn‘t pull away. She never felt like this about Xander and Anya...*And thank God for small favours!* she added to herself.

Buffy watched entranced as they stopped swaying to the music and Willow pulled Tara in for a thorough kissing. Tongues caressed each other and the insides of mouths, eyes closed under intense sensory overload. Tara gripped Willow’s shirt, bunching it in her elegant hands, and pulled her waist tighter against her own. They pulled apart, chests heaving and eyes dark with need, and Willow pulled Tara off the dance floor, heading back to the table.

"Uh, we’re gonna, uh, head back to the dorm now, ‘kay, Buffy?" Willow asked.

The Slayer almost burst into laughter at the desperate look on her best friend’s face. "You want me to walk you back?"

"No! That is, I mean, uh, no, that’s okay. Pick yourself up a sailor or something, a sailor for the Slayer, we’ll be fine. Have fun and we’ll see you tomorrow." Willow smiled and kissed Buffy on the cheek. "See ya, Buff."

"G’night, Buffy," Tara said, squeezing the Slayer’s shoulder affectionately as her girlfriend patiently dragged her away.

"Night, guys. Have fun," she said to the air around her, rolling her eyes. Her cheek felt warm where Willow kissed it. She wanted to touch that delicate warmth, yet resisted. She didn’t want to break that spell. Her shoulder tingled pleasantly where Tara touched her and her whole body felt warm.

She downed the rest of her cold drink and decided to call it a night, regardless of the early hour. She needed to think about why she seemed to now be attracted to two of her female friends and to think of ways to make her absence up to Willow.
